The "Great Blue" flies with slow "labored" wingbeats--sometimes, though rarely, emitting its hoarse croaking sound in flight. It hunts by standing motionless in shallow water, waiting for prey such as minnows and small fish to come within striking distance, then "launching" its pointed bill with amazing quickness to catch the prey. A great pattern for the bird fancier or collector, and a great addition to any room.
